Wildcat golf sets sights on sectionals

By Elliot Andrick

Coach Doug Gillispie’s wildcat golf team looks to wrap up their season on a successful note. Fielding an all-district team member and three sectional qualifiers, the team has made significant improvements throughout their season; additionally, the accomplishment of getting the lowest team score in 12 years is evidence of the time and effort put in by the squad.

After District play on Monday, juniors Jackson Koenig and Steven Shaw and sophomore Taylor Muller were sectional qualifiers. Koenig, with a score of 83, made the all-district team.

For team member Alex Schuering, junior, the season has been a success in terms of his individual play and team improvement. “This season we have done very well. One of our best moments was getting our lowest team score in 12 years,” said Schuering.

Though the accomplishments of this season have been many, the boys are not satisfied with resting on the achievements of their past and are motivated to keep working. “We’ll mostly just be working hard over the summer, playing rounds and getting lessons in throughout the summer,” explained Schuering.

Sectional play for Koenig, Shaw and Muller takes place at Adam’s Pointe Golf Club and begins Monday, May 11.
