Scorevision scoreboards light up the gym

With a flash of light after the swish of basketball, the slap of the ball hitting the floor after a spike, or the thud of the mat after a takedown, fans look to the scoreboard to get the details of the action.  Scores change and players come into view…not only in real life, but on the big screen scoreboard as well. Thanks to the the new scorevision scoreboards in the BSHS and BSS gyms, Wildcat and Jaguar fans now enjoy a more interactive experience.

These boards are big steps to making the gyms feel like professional sports venues. They are an improvement over regular scoreboards because they not only show the score, but also display stats, pictures of the players, and local and chain business ads. With bright LED lights, the boards illuminate the faces of players after they make a basket or a spike or whatever it is they are doing.

Mark Bubalo, District Activities Director, initially found the scorevision boards at a demonstration in St. Joseph and then did more research to find exactly what would fit BSSD needs. While scorevision boards are available for indoor and outdoor venues, the decision was made to start with the gymnasium scoreboards.

“We felt like the indoor scoreboards would give us more flexibility that we wouldn’t have if we got outdoor scoreboards and see if we would get the reaction we wanted out of fans and players before we took at look at buying them for the stadium,” Mr. Bubalo said.

In addition to enhancing the game for both players and fans, Bubalo noted that there are educational possibilities with these boards as well.

“It allowed some of our students to access the board with iPads and allowed our broadcasting classes to get involved making commercials and videos to go up on the board,” Bubalo said.

The boards also makes Blue Springs a fun place to play. Central office received  several calls when they first put them in with positive comments and background questions.

“We were the first high school in the Kansas City area to get these scoreboards, so I had a lot of activity directors from neighbors about how good they are and how much it cost us,” Mr. Bubalo said.

Over the summer months, the BSHS gym went through a lot of redesigning and improvements. It’s arguably one of the best places in the metro area to host sporting events. Student athletes and fans now have a chance to feel like they are playing, or watching) like professionals.
