Swim/dive team finishes season undefeated
“They work especially in the offseason, especially the state team." --Head Coach Kevin Bigham
January 24, 2019
Not many teams can say that they have gone undefeated through their whole season–let alone twice–but the girls swim and dive team has accomplished this feat in back to back seasons. They are currently sitting at 22-0.
Going undefeated during the regular season is one thing; however, Coach Kevin Bigham believes there is still a higher place to go.
“There’s always room to strive and improve better. The coaching staff is very happy to get to the next level, (and) we still want to compete for state championships and be a perennial contender for conference,” Bigham said.
Coach Bigham attributes much of their success to the offseason dedication of his swimmers.
“They work especially in the offseason, especially the state team,” Bigham said.
This work resulted in the Wildcat sending a large contingent to state. The state team this year will feature 8-10 girls. Bigham credits their senior leadership as one component of their success.
“We have been incredibly lucky to have the class of 2019 both this year and last year,” Bigham said.“It’s going to be really hard to replace the senior class but if we can get everyone training 12 months out of the year then we will be good for a really long time,” he added.
The girls finished their season on Monday totally undefeated. They will next complete at the Lee’s Summit R7 Aquatic Center 1/31-2/2 for their conference championship. State Championships are held on 2/14-2/15 @ St. Louis Rec Plex.
