Mental aspect key for girls basketball

“I think if we control the mental aspect of the game then the rest will take care of itself,” Coach Spigarelli said.

A stepback, then a drive, then a three point shot…the girls basketball team has done it all this year.

Through the highs and lows of a long season, Head Coach Mark Spigarelli expressed frustration with the way his team’s recent play, but he also knows that it’s just a little hiccup in the season.

“(It’s) a little bit disappointing because we lost to some teams that we should have beat but we had a good game Friday so I think we will be heading in the right direction,” Coach Spigarelli said.

Spigarelli knows that all it takes is one great performance though to right the ship.

“We have another chance to turn the corner tonight after a good game on Friday and hopefully this is the week that we turn the corner,” Spigarelli said.

To get moving in the right direction, the team continues to stay focused on their pre-season goals.

“Winning the conference was one of our goals, we have played two games lost the first one which was disappointing to South on Thursday and played real well against Park Hill on Friday so we still have a chance to win the conference,” Spigarelli said.

Coach Spigarelli knows that the mental aspect of the game is just as important as the physical one.

“I think if we control the mental aspect of the game then the rest will take care of itself,” Coach Spigarelli said.

Tonight, the team will travel to Ray-Pec to face the Panthers; following that, they the face the Titans of Lee’s Summit West on February 4th. Varsity tip off is at 7:00 PM.
