Strong chemistry fuels volleyball seniors

The 2019 BSHS Wildcats have the chemistry of sisters, the work ethic of champions and an unwavering love for the game. While outside the gym they lead different lives, together on the court, they are a family who puts each other above themselves.  

Second year assistant coach Brooke Kendall praised the leadership of the four seniors and noted that they all share the same goals for the season and the team. 

“These seniors have taken it upon themselves to make this their best season of high school volleyball for both themselves and their teammates. They are natural workers and leaders by example,” Kendall said.

Aliyah Bello, a four-year varsity starter and first female Superfan in BSHS history, excels in everything she does. Kendall praised both Bello’s heart and competitiveness.  

“Seeing how she leads but doesn’t lose her personality is phenomenal,” Kendall said, “and then on game day it’s a grit switch flip. Her competitiveness and her personal drive are 100% unwavering and she is an amazing leader for the entire team.”

Kendall recognized fellow seniors Angela Alvarado and Cherray Wilson as sharing mother-like qualities and acting as the caretakers of the team. 

“They are great seniors. Everything we need them to do they are 100% willing. We can always count on them, whether it’s a playing situation or something off the court that needs taken care of,” Kendall said. 

Senior Evelyn Duchane is not only a utility front row player for the Cats, able to play any position, but she is potentially the Wildcats’ #1 fan. Her younger sister, sophomore Ella Duchane, and other underclassmen look to and lean on Evelyn for leadership. Younger players mimic Evelyn’s ways as they seek to learn, improve and work hard. 

“Evelyn is always excited for her team, especially her sister; she is unquestionably present for them no matter what,” Kendall said. 

Each player mentioned that their sisterhood and teamwork this season is different and stronger than it ever has been. Literally and figuratively, these girls are sisters, which is the fuel behind their 13-9 season so far. Tonight they celebrate senior night and look to make a run together as they finish their regular season play next week and eye the postseason starting October 28th.
