The fall sports season for the Cats had been full of both successes and failures. Here’s the history of how things went down for each team:

The girls tennis team had a strong season, going undefeated for most of the season and bringing home their second district title. They sent five athletes to sectionals; ultimately, senior Caitlyn Sporing secured a fifth place slot in singles at state.

The girls golf team send four of five girls to sectionals and won their fifth consecutive district title.

Boys soccer had a very historic season. They notched their first conference win since 2010 and had an overall strong season punctuated with a few rough patches. The boys season came to an end with a devastating 4-1 loss against South in district play. The boys went 7-13.

The softball team celebrated a winning regular season, going 18-15. They concluded their season by losing to LSN in the district championship game. Senior Taylor Snead recognized the ups and downs of a season, commenting “(Our season) was frustrating as we didn’t get out of districts but the girls were fun to play with and overall it was a good season.”

Though unable to defend last season’s state title, the boys cross country will send two runners to the state meet. Senior Gabe McClain and sophomore Brock Wooderson will represent the Wildcats at state in Jefferson City on Saturday. McClain noted that inexperienced runners carried a bulk of the load for the Wildcats, so the future looks bright for them.  “Five of the seven runners on varsity this year are first time varsity runners,” McClain said. The boys cross country is looking forward to the future they have and are hopeful to reclaim a state title.

As the boys swim season winds down their 19-6 season, Coach Kevin Bigham looks forward to sending three divers and eight simmers to state: Arren Jett, Justin Watkins, Cogan Davis, Tim Schweizer, Ben Thomas, Daniel Stickney, Gabe Marthaler, Derek Banta, Alex Harkness, Josiah Thomson, Ethen Gutierrez.   Davis, Harkness, Thomson, and Gutierrez all earned First Team All-Conference.

After going 5-3 in the regular season, the football team defeated Jefferson City 36-0 in the first round of district play. They will face Blue Springs South this Friday in an attempt to further their playoff run.

The girls cross country team celebrated standout moments such as getting second at the Laker 5K in Camdenton and 5th in the conference meet. Tessa Valdivia and Alyan Thibault will be running in the state meet on November 3rd.

With the fall sports starting to come to a close on the 2018 season, the winter sports are just beginning. The student body can’t wait to see how successful our winter sports will do, and remember it’s a great day to be a wildcat.
