This year’s prom theme,“A Royal Love Story,” gave party goers a fairy tale setting at none other than Crown Center (no pun intended). The day was a blur of dresses, pictures and tuxedos, while the night gave way to music, food, and a crowned royal couple, seniors Grace Stansell and Jay’von McKinney.

While many spent the day getting ready at the salon, junior Mollie Lederer didn’t need a hair or makeup appointment; she made preparation a family affair and then joined friends for pictures.

“I got ready at my house. My aunt did my makeup and before prom I got together with a group of friends and we went to this nature park to take photos on this bridge surrounded by greenery,” Lederer said.

Lederer, like many, used Prom as a friend get together, with her group consisting of eight girls.

My favorite part of prom was being able to dress up and take pictures with my friends, especially those wide shots that get the whole group because when I look back I want to remember all the amazing girls with me that night,” Lederer said.

Lederer wasn’t the only one to go in a large group. Junior Aubrey Avalos had her own party of people, and they took the opportunity to ride in style.

“I was in a group of six. There were three couples, and we rolled up to prom in a party bus, which was amazing,” Avalos said.

The D.J. at prom spun some pretty sick tracks; of course, students had their favorites.

“I loved the high paced music. Being able to jump and dance around looking goofy was definitely one of the highlights of my night,” Avalos said.

Avalos enjoyed not only the music but was impressed with the theme as well.

“I thought the theme was super cute and very easy to work with. I think the theme next year will be something kind of goofy because I know the senate girls next year are goofy and fun people so I’m sure they have something creative up their sleeves,” Avalos said.

On the other hand, while junior Jennifer Brown saw the theme as a little stereotypical, she enjoyed what the night offered.  

“To be honest, I thought the theme was a little cheesy. (I) would’ve totally preferred Star Wars since it was May 4th,” Brown said.“I loved the photo booth at prom, Jersey and I messed around in there getting funny pictures. I also liked that the Crown Center was the chosen place to have prom. It was beautiful,” she added.  

All in all Prom is quite the experience to have in high school. From the dress shopping to the photo shoots to the blister inducing high heels, funny themes and competitions all are a part of the magic that gives Prom night such a prestigious reputation.
