The Majorettes, a BSHS dance team, has been practicing twice a week in prep for their upcoming performances. Senior coaches Ananda Marshall and Stephanie Chism set the tone for their team with their leadership. They are setting up a killer dance team.

“We are really close; sometimes it feels like we are sisters, and the team knows how to keep it professional,” Marshall said.

Though they don’t currently compete, the team will make their first appearance at the Sweetheart Ballet Assembly. As a newly formed dance team, they are working at getting their foot in the door to perform at school events.

“(We can be seen) at assemblies, and we are trying to work on basketball games, and maybe football games too,” Marshall said.

The group is small, consisting of juniors Danyelle Lyons, Nikkiana Otero, Shania Woodley, and Mariah Tyler. They work hard and move hard and are currently developing their routines.

“We have two dances choreographed so far,” Marshall said. “We do all different types of genres.”

One team member, Shania Woodley, is branching out with her dance skills. For the Black History Month assembly, she will be dancing with another team. Watch for these dancers at assembly’s and basketball games, they sure will battle you on the dance floor if challenged.
