Entertainment Explorer: Valentines weekend excitement

Valentines weekend excitement

This Valentine’s weekend, whether you want to spend time with your sweetheart or just want to get out and about, there is plenty going on around Kansas City for everyone to enjoy.

For a classical taste of romance, Swan Lake makes its highly-anticipated return to Kansas City. One of the most famous ballets of all time, it tells a love story about a wicked sorcerer who captures the beautiful Princess Odette and turns her into a swan. The sorcerer’s evil spell can only be broken when a young prince pledges his love and marries her. Should he betray her, she will remain a swan forever. This memorable tale will be performed daily from Feb 14, 2020 – Feb 16, 2020 from 7:30 pm to 9:30 pm at the Downtown Crossroads.

If you’re looking for a celebration of black history and culture, you should check out Storytelling on the KC Streetcar, which will be happening this weekend. This unique and free event will feature live music, art, and poetry by Kansas City artists and musicians on board the KC Streetcar. There will be two KC Streetcars programmed with activities featuring music by Nublvckcity, Riz Canady, art by Jt Daniels, poetry by Sheri Hall, and poetry for Personal Power. All performances will take place on board the streetcar and last approximately 90 minutes from 1:30 PM – 3:00 PM. So go check out this exploration of Black history in Kansas Cty for yourself.

Not in the mood to do anything this weekend? No problem! Looking into the future, here’s an event you can look forward to in March. Bring your friends and snack on popcorn as you enjoy Inside Out, the brightly colored Pixar film about emotional turmoil, at the Kemper Museum of Contemporary art. You will be using ‘Summer Wheat’s’ expressive color palette as inspiration for your own work of art and exploring the relationship between art and feelings. This event is free, open to all ages, and will take place March 7, from 1:00 PM – 3:30 PM at the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art.
