“[We] will only get better as the season goes on, and [we] are off to a great start.” – Remi Lamb, senior, on the progression of the Glitter Girls season
The recent Glitter Girls trip to St. Louis resulted in several trophies: They received third in Hip-Hop, second in Kick and fifth in Jazz. Overall, the team felt good about the work they have put in and the results they attained.
“We were against some good teams,” said senior Remi Lamb. “And this being our first competition with a lot of new girls, beating some of the teams was a huge accomplishment,” she followed.
This year’s Glitter Girls team has 22 dancers. This is the first time they have had more than 16 in the last four years. “It’s been hard to transition to having a bigger team, but it’s benefitting us in a positive way,” said junior Sydney Ensor.
The team also has a new assistant coach, Meghan Ryan, who is a teacher at William Bryant Elementary. “She has brought a great deal of knowledge and energy to the team,” said head coach Erin Brown.
Even though the teams received a better score in Kick, they believe that Hip-Hop is their strong suit. “[Hip-Hop] is different and more creative than we have had in the past,” said Ensor. “[The team] loves the energy,” she added.
The Glitter Girls are currently preparing for Nationals in February. They will also compete on January 23 at Lee’s Summit North High School. After the team got their results, they hoped to improve in their next competition. “[We] will only get better as the season goes on, and [we] are off to a great start,” said Lamb.
