“The variety of learning tools were incredible and definitely hooked me in,” -Bennie Holmes on JCCC’s facilitites
BSHS and BSSHS culinary skills and hospitality and tourism classes recently took a field trip to Johnson County Community College to visit their culinary program and the campus. The trip’s intent was to give students an exclusive look into the campus buildings, financial responsibilities required, and what the culinary program had to offer.
Junior Tyler Collins believed the field trip was a unique experience..
“I don’t plan to go into a career focused on culinary arts,” Collins said, “But it was still neat to see what it would be like to go into the culinary program. Even if I don’t want to have a culinary based career,” Collins said. “It was still a blast to go on the field trip.”
JCCC featured several one-of-a-kind attributes that many other colleges don’t have.
“They had a room that was fully solar powered and a culinary sensor,” Bennie Holmes said. “The college had things that I wouldn’t expect a community college to have.”
Brooke Enright, culinary team sponsor, was shocked to see the significant difference in tuition JCCC offers, compared to other schools.
“Most universities ask for about 40,000 dollars for a year,” Enright explained. “JCCC asks for about 8,000.”
Holmes was pleased to find many things to offer for his future career in the college.
“I have a huge interest in having a career in the culinary arts,” Holmes said. “The variety of learning tools were incredible and definitely hooked me in.”
Collins was extremely impressed by the JCCC campus.
“I didn’t expect such a great campus,” Collins explained. “I didn’t think it could be as nice as university campus.”
JCCC’s program offers many different things to offer their students when earning their associate’s degree.
“JCCC offers a 3 year program to students who are earning their associate degree,” Enright said. “You work full time which is a 6,000 hour internship but you get paid.”
The field trip enlightened Holmes as to what other options to look into and helped him to begin to envision his future.
“I absolutely loved JCCC,” Holmes said. “I will definitely consider it as my future college.”
Enright hopes to have the opportunity to visit JCCC again next year.
“We scheduled to visit JCCC for this year’s trip,” Enright said. “To be able to do it again would be amazing.”
