“I believe we were able to win the game, we just didn’t come out as ready as we have in the past.”-Haley Lysinger, senior, on the girls basketball team’s defeat against South
Crowded gyms and rowdy fans kept BSHS lively this past week. Although both boys and girls basketball teams fought hard battles against BSSHS, each game ended in defeat. Despite their losses, both teams hope for a victory when they play BSSHS again this upcoming week.
Though South came into the match-up unbeaten, senior Taysean Goodwin felt his team had a great chance of winning their game against the crosstown rivals. “We felt like we could have taken that one. We have worked hard all year for that exact game,” said Goodwin. They came out of the battle with a score of 51 – 87.
This loss will definitely result in growth for the team. Junior Justin Hall saw the need to change in himself after Friday’s game. “I wish I could’ve played harder all around, and been able to say I gave it my all after the game was done,” said Hall.
On the other hand, on the girls’ side, senior Haley Lysinger thought her team wasn’t psychologically prepared for the big game. They were physically prepared but were not in the right head space. “I believe we were able to win the game, we just didn’t come out as ready as we have in the past,” said Lysinger.
This game finished with a 48-40 score, but Lysinger is optimistic for how the game could have ended. “If we stayed mentally ready during the entire time it would have had a completely different outcome,” she said.
The girls play BSSHS again on Thursday, February 12th, and the boys play them on Friday, February 13th. Junior Madison Sykes said the parents and students should expect “complete redemption” from both teams. Both games will be held at South.
