“You have photography, introductory classes, drawing, painting, ceramics, and 3D works.” – Jessica Taul/ Teacher
Art: where the creativity of a person’s imagination and skills come into visual form. From painting to sculpting, the ways artists can display their skills has no limit
The end of the semester Art Show was recently on display in the library. Art students pick their favorite masterpiece from throughout the semester to showcase to the school. Design Fundamentals teacher Jessica Taul is proud of the variety of student work.
“You have photography, introductory classes, drawing, painting, ceramics, and 3D works,” she listed. Though she enjoys all the work, her personal favorite is ceramics because she admires how much time goes into each piece.
Senior Kaitlynn Owings, whose mixed media project was on display, took around three weeks to complete her piece. “I did wood, watercolor, and then I engraved the wood, and [used] dead flowers.” Her inspiration was “whimsical and death because that’s how [the artwork] sort of represents,” she said.
Junior Ravenna Fleck noted that her sculpture was a rendition of Rembrandt, an “artist who thought himself a lot like Michelangelo. It was just really cool to see his style and the whole life and death theme he had in it,” she said.
Her artwork, a skull against black velvet fabric featuring a tin can and flowers, was completely made of chalk and took her three weeks to complete, which was longer than expected. “We had about two weeks to do the project,” she said.
The next opportunity for patrons to view student work will be next semester.
